October Event Details

Fall Picnic: Saturday, October 28th, 10am
The fall picnic will be at Memorial Park in Sierra Madre. We will have a raffle headed up by Barbara Bushka and we certainly welcome any raffle prizes you can donate. Contact Barbara for more information or to deliver raffle items in advance at 661-296-2879 or email at sheltielvr2@yahoo.com. If you prefer to bring your donation(s), please plan to have it there by 9:15 a.m. If you aren't able to be to the park that early, please bring it anyway and we'll use it at our next picnic. Your donations are precious to us and they're tax deductible! Every ticket sold means more money to help the Shelties in need.

We also plan to have our doggie play area which has been very popular and we look forward to watching our Shelties play together. This year, in addition to our annual Halloween Dog Costume contest, we are also having a Dog Owner Look Alike contest AND (in the spirit of the season) a Best Dog Trick contest!

We will also have a potluck. Please bring a main dish if your last name begins with A-L, and a side dish or salad if your name begins with M-Z. Desserts, soft drinks, and paper goods will be provided by SSRI.

HAS YOUR DOG TAKEN THE AKC GOOD CITIZEN TEST?
Dog trainer and AKC Canine Good Citizen evaluator Jeraldine (Jerry ) Dietz will be at the SSRI picnic on October 28. Jerry will be available to administer the test for CGC Certification FREE! To help Jerry schedule her time and ensure she has enough certificates on hand, email us at charlottehuckfestival@redlands.edu if are interested in taking the test. The CGC test evaluates whether a dog can act calm around a new person and dog, walk on a loose leash through a crowd, sit while a stranger pets the dog and be separated from his/her owner for three minutes without freaking out. S/he must also sit, lie down and come on command. The concepts in the test should be goals for every dog owner. Special thanks and appreciation to Jerry for her willingness to donate her time and expertise!
